On Nov. 13, the Japanese newspaper, the Yomiuri Shimbun, reported that the Kyoto Prefectural Police’s Anti-Cybercrime Department arrested four men on the suspicion of infringing on the Japanese Copyright Act.

These individuals were affiliated with the illegal distribution of Japanese manga, including One Piece, on the English scanlation website “Mangapanda.”

The fourth individual, an employee for a distribution company, would extract magazines from the printing company en route to another distribution company who then ship the manga to bookstores. The suspect would hand those stolen copies over to his acquaintances to illicitly distribute them in English on their website. According to an updated Yomiuri Shimbun article, the 69 year old Japanese suspect and the three additional suspects, all of whom are from China, were arrested earlier today and have been taken into custody and said that “I only delivered them manga.”

(This is getting even more serious than previously imagined, I've just heard that the release of next week's chapter may be postponed, and we probably won't get to read OP on Thursday anymore... Be prepared.)

Just a while ago, several Chinese scanlation groups have posted that the age of early chapters will probably come to an end.
Not sure what exactly will happen to MP site.

Damm, I was so afraid it could get worse and it did get worse. Hope Oda will say something about this.
I don't mind reading OP later than usual so long as I still can read it.

He will be told of this if he hasn't seen the news himself.
Though I doubt he'll make any comment.

You may find the change from Wednesday to Thursday easy, but it won't be as easy if it's from Thursday to, say, Monday. Let's see how it goes. :frown:

It's not a big problem. We'll get used to the new schedule soon. Instead, be thankful that we can still read OP for free. I still hope Oda will say something to help his fans... Please keep us updated.

I wish I wouldn't find that as a big problem, but I'm just unlike people including you, even one-day change is big enough for me. :sob:

I don't feel good about it for no reason...

There's always another person to do the dirty work, arresting these guys ain't going to stop the scanlation business.

They're two different questions actually, as long as the scanlation groups release the manga on the same day as the that of the magazine, they won't be in trouble.
Now Japan has taken this issue quite seriously, which made early raw-providing that was already fairly risky even more risky.

maybe I'm optimistic. Always look on the bright side. Always. Just hope sites like MP, MS won't be closed.

Because they release OP chapters one day later than MP or they delete old chapters? Honestly, I'm still worried.

The only consequence I can think of right now is that we will get to read the chapters days later than usual, MP is the main target according to the news, which certainly doesn't look like something easy to solve.

    Why is that?

MS does not handle things like how a normal manga site does. It hosts the latest few chapters and deletes the rest, in order to encourage readers to buy the original manga from its respective distributors. Plus, MS doesn't translate alot of chapters to attract the authority's attention in my opinion. Still, I don't think this is the main cause. Probably MP has captured the authorities' attention with their huge library of manga chapters.

Thanks. That makes sense. I also think it's MP's popularity that causes them more trouble than MS.

Is that another way of saying I don't know? lol

The release time will pick back up real fast, trust me. This isn't world economy to be dependent on a single superpower.

??? Don't know what you mean by that, I was saying the scanlation groups would only be in trouble when they released the manga too early.

I have no doubt about that at all.

According to the news, it said the loss in 5 years amounted to over 50 million US dollars. I don't how much it is to the manga industry.

Just to be clear, ^ this is the source from which MP (and other groups) gets the raw scans (as said in the news, they met in a parking lot every time...), which has now been cut off by the Japanese police. That Japanese guy is aged 69... good man.
