Thought this might be a handy guide to have as a way of keeping track of what happened when during the current flashback arc, especially with corrections being made etc. The timeline will include events we have seen happen as well as events that will eventually happen.

    Oden’s Story - the Timeline

41+ years ago: Kurozumi Orochi is told by a fortune teller (presumably one of his ancestors) that he will one day become shogun. The pair hatch a plan to steal the title of shogun from the Kozuki family. The fortune teller is the previous user of the Mane Mane no Mi (Bon Clay's Devil Fruit).

41 years ago: The Mountain God incident occurs. Oden is banished by his father. Oden then meets Yasuie and Orochi, and gains Denjiro and Kin’emon as his first retainers.

41-39 years ago*: Oden’s adventure journal. He meets Izo, Kiku, Kanjuro, Raizo and Ashura Doji in that order, all of whom eventually join him. Oden then becomes the Daimyo of Kuri, and the group become his official retainers.

Chapter 962 states that six years pass between Oden becoming the Daimyo of Kuri and Kawamatsu finding Inuarashi/Nekomamushi on the beach. Whilst this may be a translation error due to the timeline change that Oda made (where he moved the start of the flashback backwards from 39 years in the past to 41), it could also be that Oden meeting his samurai and eventually becoming Daimyo occurs over a two-year period. Since no official correction for the “six years have passed and we are 33 years from the present” statement has been released, we can safely assume that Oden becomes Daimyo 39 years before the present day.

38 years ago: The God Valley Incident and the disbanding of the Rocks Pirates.

33 years ago: Oden meets Inuarashi, Nekomamushi and Kawamatsu. They become his retainers as well.

30 years ago: Oden meets Whitebeard and asks to join his crew. During Whitebeard's "trial" to test Oden's determination to join the crew, Oden is washed on to the shore of a "certain island", where he meets Amatsuki Toki. Oden, Toki, Inuarashi, Nekomamushi and Izo join Whitebeard's crew for an adventure. Toki reveals she was born 800 years ago, and is trying to get to Wano.

30 years ago: After reading a news article about the Whitebeard Pirates and the Wano samurai that has joined their crew, a pirate by the name of Gold Roger takes interest in meeting Oden. Roger seems to be familiar with Wano Kuni.

28 years ago: Momonosuke is born on Whitebeard’s ship. Oden is appointed as Whitebeard’s Second Division commander, and he now has a bounty. Teach joins the Whitebeard pirates.

28-26 years ago: Kozuki Sukiyaki dies, and Orochi is appointed as shogun in his place until Oden returns.

26 years ago: Hiyori is born. Oden meets Roger some time after Hiyori’s birth. He ends up joining the Roger Pirates on Roger’s final voyage.

26 years ago: Oden joins Roger’s final voyage. He is present for the events on Skypeia and the reading of the four Road Poneglyphs. He briefly returns to Wano for one of the Road Poneglyphs - his retainers ask him to stay but he finishes the adventure, leaving an ill Hiyori and his two children back on Wano. Oden then sails to Laugh Tale, the final island, with Roger and his crew (minus Shanks and Buggy).

25 years ago: Oden returns to Wano after adventuring with Roger (chapter 958). He returns to find Orochi holding the title of Shogun. Kaido is already supporting Orochi at the time of Oden's return. Oden attacks Orochi. One of Orochi's attendants protects him using the power of the Bari Bari no Mi (Bartolomeo's Devil Fruit). For unknown reasons, Oden begins dancing naked in the streets for money.

24 years ago: Roger is executed. The Great Age of the Pirates begins. The news reaches Oden, who reacts by both laughing and crying.

20 years ago: Orochi makes his move on Kuri. Oden and his scabbards then decide to make their move on Kaido. (with Shinobu's assistance). Oden and his scabbards lose the fight, and are sentenced to be boiled to death. On the day of exectution, Oden asks Kaido and Orochi to allow the individuals who survive the boiling to be pardoned. Kaido accepts these terms, stating if an individual can withstand an hour in the boiling pot, they will be excused. Oden enters the boiling pot alone, carrying his scabbards above his head on a wooden plinth. This event would go on to be known as the Hour of Legends.

Yup, thanks a bunch! I think we might need to update this for a general page for important flashback timeline (of course a catchier title/name). It sounds like Rocks was just the beginning of the important flashbacks that the Wano Kuni arc will have. We got a teaser of Big Mom's origin, but how she gets the fruit ability and how she rises to power could be huge. Same thing for Kaidou.

It will be a later flashback, but it is probably just an eventuality before we get Roger to be included in an Oden flashback. There's probably more Whitebeard stuff later too.

Either way, Oda's updated plan means that we are getting what was likely to be future info jammed into one super arc. This timeline is probably just going to grow and grow as we get closer to the climax(es). I don't foresee Kaidou and Big Mom being fought at the same time. We need a second ally that is Yonkou level (Luffy still isn't there yet so technically we need two Yonkou level fighters still). Perfectly fitting for this super arc to have multiple climax points.

Post updated to include Chapter 964 information!

Wano "Act 3" has already been very information dense, from Rocks to the Oden flashback - I think Oden gives Oda the perfect excuse to expand on the lore during Roger's time. This flashback has almost felt like a new story with a new protagonist and it's been refreshing to see - I'm sure once the flashback is over we'll know a few very important things for the upcoming battle (such as how to injure Kaido)

I can't see Oda changing everything about his writing style, so at least some of the major stuff (Roger's interactions with Oden, Oden fighting Kaidou, Toki giving hints of her goals, etc.) is going to be later in the arc.

I have to think injuring Kaidou is simply having Yonkou level physical strength and haki. Luffy may have level 2 haki, but he still is WAY too weak physically. Oden matches prime Whitebeard for both strength and haki, so he easily can cause damage to Kaidou.

Completely agree on the aspect of a "reset" with a "new protagonist". Kinda cliche, but perfect since the primary (Japanese) audience will eat all of Wano Kuni up (volume sales will jump).

I'm really curious about Luffy's strengthening, because Hyougoro's emphasised that Lv2 Haki isn't all about strength as much as it's about technique. That being said, he will need to get significantly stronger somehow.
And yeah, Oden's a monster - I expected him to be strong but being comparable to the Yonko is beyond expectation.

I'm eating this stuff up - the past 9/10 chapters have been a really refreshing change of pace as far as which characters are involved are concerned.

Yea...there was so much hype about Wano Kuni/samurai (the admirals being fearful of just going in). This really makes it seem like they only know about Oden and don't know that everyone else is weak as hell. Inuarashi and Nekomamushi are outsiders. So the only legit powerhouse is Ashura that was a resident from birth. But it fits the plot that the only visible/mainstream samurai is Yonkou-level, so the stereotype is that they are potentially full of such fighters.
For sure. With the plot being so long, we need breaks from the Mugiwaras. So it's perfect that we always have flashbacks on the main characters of each arc. Even better for us that we are getting end of series info! First time we are having overlap of key characters though, which may not even happen with Rocks flashbacks (even Whitebeard isn't established at that time since he only has one boat and no "division commanders").

While not being that significant - 26 years ago exactly Roger read the road poneglyph on Zou (Stated by Pedro in WCI after they were being chased by those huge ants)
